How to disable vPro in Minis Forum MS-01 ?

  • I have a MinisForum MS01 and I want to use it as a router. So I decided to install pfSense on it.

In pfSense when ever I connect my ethernet cable to "icg0", it can not comminucate to other ports, meaning if for example if I set "igc0" as the WAN, and "igc1" as the LAN, it pfSense would never be able to set an IP for the LAN.

    Am I doing something wrong?

I am really frustrated... thanks to anyone who can help!!!!!

  • Welcome to our forums!

No, you're not doing anything wrong. The MinisForum MS01 has an Intel vPro feature applied to the "icg0" Ethernet port. This means the "icg0" port is directly connected to your CPU via a dedicated lane.

The vPro feature is designed for managing PCs via a central network, so it's not useful for home users.

I have tried disabling the vPro feature completely in the BIOS, but it did not help.

Therefore, I recommend that you not use this port at all. In simple terms, this port won't communicate in an operating system like pfSense or OPNSense to your other network ports, which prevents the expected functionality.

If you need more Ethernet ports, you can always purchase small form factor network cards and insert them into the MS01's PCI port.
